Wednesday 20th August 2025 | The Court House
Zak Irvine is a talented young jazz pianist and bandleader from Bangor, now based in Belfast. We’ve been working with Zak over the last couple of years as he’s collaborated with different artists and honed his skills, developing a polished and versatile jazz piano style, with a passion for improvisation. Zak is now a prominent figure in Northern Ireland’s music scene, playing at the likes of Bert’s Jazz Bar and Soultrane Festival, plus somewhere exciting that he’s not allowed to mention just yet. He is known for blending classical roots with jazz influence, and pushing musical boundaries, to create a distinctive sound.
We’re delighted that the Court House will host the first public performance of Zak’s original music. Drawing inspiration from legendary pianists such as Robert Glasper, Shaun Martin, Herbie Hancock and jazz producer Kiefer, we’re excited to hear what this burgeoning young talent will bring.
Zak will be joined by his long term collaborators Ben Watson on drums and Phil Acheson on bass, plus Michael McDowell on saxophone and Tom Wall on trumpet.
Bangor Blues & Jazz Week is kindly supported by Ards & North Down Borough Council and sponsored by Beamish.
