It’s the start of a new year, and it’s also the start of a brand new adventure for Open House, as a stellar festival line-up goes on tour, to visit unique venues, create good vibes... and make some great music.

Open House Festival on tour Feb/March 2015 - JOHN SMITH - PØRTS - PRIMA STRING QUARTET

Having staged live music events in Belfast for the last 17 years, and more recently in Bangor, we thought it was time we also went on the road to visit our audiences who live off the main drag. So... Open House Festival is delighted to announce its first ever tour, creating a mini festival each night in unusual and bespoke venues around the country. We hope to see you out there on the road.

The Open House tour features John Smith, the guitar man from Devon who has quietly become one of the most exciting artists on the new British folk scene and whose music was recently described as “the voice of Ray LaMontagne combined with the playing of John Martyn”; PØRTS (formerly known as Little Bear), the 4-piece indie-folk band from Derry-Londonderry currently being championed by Cerys Matthews on BBC 6 Music, and The Prima Quartet, who stretch the boundaries of the string quartet format and whose collaborations include acts as diverse as Lady Gaga, Pink, Belle and Sebastian and Best Boy Grip.

Open House Festival on tour - John Smith

JOHN SMITH

John Smith is the guitar man from Devon who has quietly become one of the most exciting voices on the new British folk scene. Touring relentlessly as headliner, and support act, he has worked with John Martyn, Iron and Wine, Seth Lakeman, Davy Graham, John Renbourn, David Gray, Cara Dillon, James Yorkston, Martin Carthy, Jools Holland, Tinariwen, Martin Simpson, Gil Scott-Heron and Chris Thile. John is a regular on the UK festival circuit, having played shows at Glastonbury, Green Man, Cambridge and many others. In this way, he has found a loyal following in the UK and Ireland, Europe, Japan, Mexico, the USA and Canada. Slow but sure.

John plays the steel-string acoustic guitar. Sometimes with a slide, sometimes on his lap, sometimes de-tuning the thing mid-song. He was named Young Acoustic Guitarist Of The Year in 2003 and hasn’t stopped to look back, unless it’s to pick up a banjo

Formerly known as Little Bear but currently being championed by Cerys Matthews on BBC 6 Music, PØRTS are a 4-piece indie folk band from Derry-Londonderry who have just recorded their debut LP and which is now being mixed by Dan Long in his Eagle Rock studio in LA. Dan has mixed for, among others, Open House favourites, Local Natives. PØRTS have been building a reputation in the short time they’ve been together and 2015 will no doubt be a busy year for them with their new album to promote and new parts of the world to play.
